Kidcare ID Kits
We know that your children are the most
important thing in the world to you. So keeping our Hometown Kids safe is a number
one priority for us! That is why we plan our Emergency
Preparedness Fairs, which includes offering Kidcare ID kits, free of charge, to any
child under the age of 12.
These standardized kits may make the difference if your child is ever lost or
missing. Endorsed by the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Kidcare kits have contributed to the safe
return of many children. Although the Polaroid kits are no longer available, the
NCMEC offers the following, an excellent resource!
The kit contains pertinent info
about your child: height, weight, hair color, eye color, distinguishing characteristics,
as well as their fingerprints and a current photo. Law enforcement/Search and Rescue
can use this information to help find and identify your child. Photos are taken so
that they can be easily altered for age progression, making them invaluable if the child
is missing for an extended period of time.

Kits are kept by the family
in a safe place, and updated once a year with a new photo. In the event of an
emergency, everything is available at a moment's notice, reducing the amount of time it
will take to mobilize search efforts. The booklet also contains contact numbers for
the NCMEC. Take these booklets on
vacation with you; one family reported that they have even used these kits as
identification for their children on vacation.
 |
It also contains a list of 7 safety tips that every family should read
and discuss together. It's a good idea to be proactive and make sure that your
children have every resource to keep themselves safe. Make good family rules that
will help them to avoid abduction. It is not a fun subject to think about....but
knowing about it will help us to keep it from happening in our lives!

Ocean Shores IGA will be offering these kits at local Elementary Schools in the month of
February 2005. If you have any further questions, you may contact Jody Cadle at
360-289-2496.
And despite the financial investment that this requires, as
well as the donation of time by our staff and the Ocean Shores Police Department and the
Grays Harbor County Sherriff's Department, we hope that these kits will NEVER be
used. We would rather be safe than sorry, and we would be happy to have prepared,
but never have a missing child in our area!
